Events follow national theme, “The Crisis in Black Education”

Throughout February, the members of Lou Walker Senior Center are celebrating Black History Month with events open to the public. The center is located at 2538 Panola Road in Lithonia.

This year’s national Black History Month theme is “The Crisis in Black Education,” and the center’s different performing arts events and speakers will deliver messages around the subject.

Upcoming events include:

  • Thursday, Feb. 23, at 2:30 p.m., Crisis in Black Education presented by LWSC Drama Club
  • Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 2:30 p.m., Black History Celebration presented by LWSC Performing Arts Group
  • Friday, Feb. 17, through Friday, March 3, LWSC Photography Exhibition

So far this month, the center has celebrated with the Towers High School Marching Band, accompanied by guest speakers and a performance by LWSC line dancers as well as a fashion show. To view photos from this event visit https://adobe.ly/2lieSwg.

LWSC is a multipurpose facility for active seniors age 55 and older. The 40,000-square-foot facility offers space and amenities to meet the needs and interests of today’s active older adults. The architectural structure of the facility and programming stimulate the mind and body to remain active.
