Resume and job coaching workshops and health screenings will also be available
LITHONIA, Ga.-The Lou Walker Senior Center, in partnership with DeKalb WorkSource Development and DeKalb County Public Library, will host a job fair for seniors age 55 and older on Thursday, May 10th, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Lou Walker Senior Center, 2538 Panola Road in Lithonia.
The job fair offers seniors who aren’t ready to stop working and retire an opportunity to connect with local employers. According to AARP Foundation, “50+ workers are the new normal. The older the baby boom generation gets, the more 50+ workers are participating in the labor force.” A resume workshop will be available for those who do not have resumes, and job coaching workshops are also available to help job seekers create a personalized plan designed to meet their goals.
Confirmed employers include DeKalb County School System, Emory Conference Center, RaceTrac, AARP, DeKalb County Fire & Rescue, Walmart, Kroger, and many more. Seniors are encouraged to bring young job seekers who are interested in summer jobs.
The DeKalb County Mobile Career Resource Center and Kaiser Permanente Mobile Health Unit will also be onsite.
The Mobile Career Resource Center is a 13-station computer lab that provides workforce solutions for businesses and individuals. Individuals will be served through various job search/career development activities such as on-line job search, resume and cover letter development, on-line tutorials and individual assessments and exploration of training eligibility and options.
