From the moment the doors swung open in June 2006, volunteers have been the heart and center of everything we do at the Lou Walker Senior Center. They play an integral role at the center and do everything including answer phones, greet members and visitors, serve as tour guides, assist with registration, spearhead fundraising efforts, advocate for various causes, teach, register voters, run clubs and organizations, organize art and drama programs, keep us connected to our veterans, gardening, coordinate monthly birthday celebrations, serve as LWSC community ambassadors (choir, dancers etc.) and much more!
LWSC has more than 200 volunteers averaging 400-500 volunteer hours per month, saving the County more than $100,000 per year in salaries. Over the ten years that the Campus has been open, these Champions have created value in excess of $1 million dollars!
LWSC Volunteers were honored during this year’s Volunteer Appreciation Celebration at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. They received certificates, gifts, and more.
